Irish Leprechauns.

Everyone has heard of extra terrestrials but what about land-based "extras". I am reffering to mystical and legendary beigns, based on earth and "at one with earth".

My area of growing expertise is "LEPRECHAUNS". These extra sensory individuals may have came from the skies, but manifested themselves as bearded males of low stature and high wisdom. Usually, they were represented as being around forty years of age.

It must be remembered that they came from an era of low life expectancy and I suggest that as stories were passed down, the numberous and varied stories of their ages, were exagerated as they were measured against their contemporaries.

Why did they manifest as male and not female, you may well ask. I suggest again that all stories of old have to be "weighed" against that particular time of history. If it wasn't socially acceptable for a woman to be an authority on wisdom, then all accounts would be somewhat biased. That is to say, historical accounts have to be considered from different sources, to attempt to ascertain the truth, such as it is.

Similarly, in a culture where the percieved "GODS" were female, all notorious heroes were of similar gender, however godly. I hope that you see what I mean! Women, and I love them all, should not feel slighted by history, or anyone. We cannot and should not attempt to rewrite it, but accept that it was "what it was" if "it was".

Ireland, at the time  of LEPRECHAUNS  was socially biased as other parts of the world were, and some, regrettfully still are.

Abject poverty was democratically the right of most people. Potatoes were the staple diet. Milk and cheese were a bonus, as were chickens. Chickens were a source of protein, and a bargaining force for use in the "barter system" . The barter system was the precursor to money. I'll give you a chicken, if, and only if, you give me some potatoe seed. This system is still used in part of the world, though it may not involve chickens and potatoes might be substituted for pasta or rice.

Poverty is a poor way to live and who will dispute it. I deduce from stories of the old people, both men and women, that it was neccessary to have something to believe in. A "galley humour", some would call it.

The leprauchaun and his legendary wisdom belonged to an era, as described above. He was a friend, popping up to deliver solace when required. A prehistoric "pop-up", if you like.

I don't mean to drag on, but if you can understand the time, then situations within that time might seem more reasonable and I just want to lay the foundations to the stories imparted to me. I don't forget, or dismiss, the wonderful people that relayed the experiences of their youth, however far-fetched they seem in todays context.

Furthermore, archaelogically, remains of LEPRECHANS is hard to define. Remains of smallish men are common as the diet was different, less, and less nutritious. But historical accounts are neither right or wrong, just older.
